Jammu, Apr 21: In a step to strengthen emergency healthcare services, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday flagged off seven ambulances along with essential medical equipment from the Civil Secretariat in Jammu for deployment across five districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The ambulances have been provided by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Officials said the vehicles were procured at a total cost of around ₹144.73 lakh to improve emergency response services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that expanding access to timely medical assistance remains a priority for the government, adding that the newly inducted ambulances would help healthcare teams respond more efficiently during emergencies and contribute to saving lives.
Among those present on the occasion were Health and Education Minister Sakina Itoo, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, Managing Director JKSPDC Rahul Yadav, Director Health Services Jammu, and other senior officials.
Officials also informed that the corporation has undertaken several welfare-oriented projects during the 2025–26 financial year, including supplying critical medical equipment to healthcare institutions, extending support to childcare facilities and a school for visually impaired students, and carrying out infrastructure works collectively valued at approximately ₹237.28 lakh.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive development, the Chief Minister appreciated the role of JKSPDC in supporting key public service sectors through its CSR programmes.
