APRIL 7: On Monday, uproar erupted in J&K Legislative Assembly over Waqf Amendment Bill, resulting in House adjournment for 15 minutes as Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather dismissed adjournment motion moved by all regional parties including the NC and Congress.
Dubbing the bill as “unacceptable”, the National Conference MLAs demanded discussion on the Waqf Bill whereat Abdul Rahim Rather and refused to suspend question hour for debate.
Pertinent to mention that this was the first adjournment of the House during Budget Session.
In the house, NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq said, “With this our foremost democratic right, we raise the issue of Waqf Amendment Bill. Since, J&K has Muslim majority, it is prime responsibility of legislators to discuss the issue.”
Sadiq added, “We have moved adjournment motion signed by 10-11 MLAs. Hope you (Speaker) allow the time to debate the issue.”
PDP MLA Waheed Parra accused the J&K Govt of aiding the NDA over the Waqf Bill and termed it betrayal to mandate of people.
