JAMMU, 12 Feb: With three MLAs submitting the private bills seeking liquor ban in J&K, BJP leaders have heaped praises and espoused the initiative claiming it to be imperative for society.
National Conference (NC) MLA Ahsan Pardesi, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Mir Mohd Fayaz, and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad submitted private bills seeking ban on alcohol in J&K.
Following this, former deputy CM and senior BJP leader Nirmal Singh has backed the initiative and said that he utterly upholds the move.
“I fully support the bill fighting for a ban on alcohol in J&K. Bhartiya Janata Party has never advocated liquor consumption. Besides, wherever the BJP Government is in power, stern measures have been taken against it,” said Nirmal Singh.
On the bill seeking alcohol ban, Chairperson J&K Waqf Board and BJP National Executive Member Dr Darakhshan Andrabi said that BJP has always been concerned about the future of youth
“We intend to keep the youth away from drugs, in this regard, this bill is praiseworthy initiative,” said Andrabi.
Notably, it appears the matter of astonishment that different political outfits including BJP are on the same page vis-à-vis the alcohol bill but the challenge appears its implementation.
Pertinent to mention, the bills will be tabled in the upcoming session of J&K Legislative Assembly taking place on 3 March.
