JAMMU, 10 Feb: The Delhi High Court on Monday granted custody parole of two days to jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to attend the ongoing Parliament session.
Vis-à-vis this, widespread reactions were captured:
Taking to X, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti posted, “Gurmeet Singh also calling himself Ram Rahim, convicted in rape and murder charges, has been out on parole for months since his imprisonment. Meanwhile, we have the honorable MP Engineer Rashid, who has finally been granted just two days of custody parole to attend Parliament, and that too only by a High Court order. This is truly the “mother of democracy” at work!”
On custody parole to Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, his brother and MLA Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh says, “It’s a good moment for all of us. For the last 11 days, he was on a hunger strike. I am celebrating this moment as he is ending his hunger strike. Besides, the 18 lakh people whom he represents, now their voices will be heard in the Parliament”
Engineer Rashid’s son, Abrar Rashid said to media, “This is a positive development. He had received such a huge mandate in the Lok Sabha Polls 2024 and people had sent him to the Parliament as their representative. But he could not go to the Parliament for the last 3 sessions because he was not permitted. The first part of this session will end on 13th February. So, he will be allowed to go to the Parliament. This is a matter of joy for the people of north Kashmir…The petition for regular bail has also been filed, we hope that the result will be positive whenever the plea is heard.”
Pertinent to mention earlier several political leaders like incumbent CM Omar Abdullah had raised concerns on the deteriorating health of Engineer Rashid.
Apart from this, People’s Conference chief Sajad Lone and senior CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami had expressed concern over his health and had asked the authorities to take proper care of Rashid.
