Jammu: The trial in the case related to the alleged assassination attempt on former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah progressed on Tuesday, with the statement of an NSG commando recorded before the Principal District and Sessions Court, Jammu.
The proceedings in FIR No. 29/2026, registered under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 30 of the Arms Act at Police Station Gangyal, were conducted before Principal District and Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina.
According to information gathered, prosecution witness Mangal Das, an NSG Commando, appeared before the court and his statement was recorded. Counsels representing both sides also advanced their arguments during the hearing.
The case relates to the March 11, 2026 incident at a marriage function in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu, where a gunman allegedly attempted to fire at Dr Farooq Abdullah from close range. Abdullah escaped unhurt after his security personnel intervened and overpowered the accused, identified as Kamal Singh.
Following the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged assassination attempt. The decision was taken in view of the seriousness and sensitivity of the case.
The SIT was ordered under the supervision of a Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua range. The police had registered the case under Section 109 of the BNS and provisions of the Arms Act after the incident.
The accused was reportedly arrested at the spot, and a revolver was recovered from his possession.
The court has now fixed October 8 and 9, 2026, as the next dates of hearing. Further proceedings in the trial are expected on the scheduled dates.
