Srinagar, October 30: National Conference MP from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has invited people to attend a public programme scheduled for November 3 in Budgam, where he is expected to make an important political announcement.
Posters inviting people to the event have appeared at several places. The programme has been titled “Resignation Announcement” and is scheduled to take place at Behisht-e-Zehra Park in Budgam, near the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
The invitation, issued in the name of the Srinagar MP, asks the general public to attend the gathering. It also carries the message “Voice of the Voiceless”, indicating that the programme could mark an important development in his political career.
Although the poster points towards a possible resignation, it does not provide details about the reasons behind the decision or the next course of action.
Ruhullah has remained at odds with the National Conference leadership over the party’s failure, as he has repeatedly claimed, to fulfil the promises made to people in its election manifesto.
Since his election to the Lok Sabha in the 2024 general elections, the MP has maintained differences with his party on several issues.
He had also stayed away from campaigning for National Conference candidate Aga Syed Mehmood during the Budgam Assembly by-election. The seat had fallen vacant after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah resigned from Budgam, choosing to retain the Ganderbal Assembly constituency after winning both seats.
In the by-election, PDP candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi defeated NC candidate Aga Syed Mehmood.
Meanwhile, speculation about Ruhullah possibly joining the Congress after the November 3 programme has also surfaced. However, neither Ruhullah nor the Congress party has officially confirmed any such development.
All eyes are now on the November 3 gathering, where Ruhullah’s next political move is expected to become clearer.
