Jammu, October 31: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the abrogation of Article 370 brought Kashmir closer to the rest of the country, calling it one of the major achievements of the Narendra Modi government.
Addressing a gathering in New Delhi ahead of flagging off the ‘Run for Unity’ on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, observed to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shah said the Modi government had taken several important decisions during its tenure.
Shah said that making India free from drugs would be the biggest achievement for the country’s youth and future.
He set December 31, 2029, as the target date for making India completely drug-free, stressing that the vision of a developed India, or ‘Viksit Bharat’, could be achieved through a ‘Nasha-Mukt Bharat’.
Highlighting India’s diversity, Shah said the country’s different languages, cultures, traditions and religions were its strength and reflected the message of national unity given by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Referring to the government’s campaign against Naxalism, Shah said India had moved beyond the shadow of Naxalism on March 31 this year and was now working towards becoming a drug-free nation.
He stressed that collective efforts were necessary to protect the younger generation from drug abuse and build a stronger and more prosperous India.
