New Delhi, June 27: The Union Government has announced a revision in passport application charges by amending the Passports Rules, 1980. The updated fee structure will come into force from July 1, 2026.

As per the latest notification issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on June 20 and made public on June 25, the cost of applying for a fresh 36-page ordinary passport has been increased from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500. The same revised fee will also apply to reissued 36-page passports.

For applicants opting for Tatkal services, the fee for a fresh or reissued 36-page passport has been raised to ₹5,000, compared to the earlier ₹3,500.

Similarly, the charges for a 60-page passport, whether fresh or reissued, have been revised upward from ₹2,000 to ₹3,500. Under the Tatkal category, applicants will now have to pay ₹6,000 instead of the previous ₹4,000.

The amendment has been introduced under Section 24 of the Passports Act, 1967. The government stated that the new rules will be known as the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026.

Along with the revised fees, the Centre has also replaced Schedule IV of the Passports Rules, 1980. The updated schedule includes separate categories for adult applicants above 18 years, minors between 15 and 18 years applying under the adult category, and children below 18 years of age.
