Jammu: Residents of Jammu can expect scorching temperatures and dry weather over the next three days, with the Meteorological Department forecasting isolated heatwave conditions in the plains before a significant change in weather from June 11 onwards.

According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, weather across Jammu and Kashmir is likely to remain generally hot and dry till June 10, although brief afternoon showers at isolated locations cannot be ruled out.

For Jammu city, the MeT Department has predicted a mainly clear sky on Monday with the maximum temperature likely to touch 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 23 degrees Celsius.

Similar conditions are expected across the plains of Jammu division, prompting the department to issue a heatwave alert for isolated areas on June 8 and June 9.

The latest forecast indicates that while Kashmir division is not expected to witness any weather warnings during the coming week, isolated heatwave conditions may affect parts of Jammu division over the next two days.

Relief from the intense heat is expected from June 11 as a fresh western disturbance is likely to influence weather conditions across the Union Territory.

The MeT Department has forecast partly to generally cloudy skies accompanied by light rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at scattered to many places between June 11 and June 14.

Director Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are possible at isolated to scattered locations during the period.

The department has also warned that intense rainfall at some places could trigger flash floods, mudslides and localized flooding, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas. Travellers, farmers and residents have been advised to remain alert and follow official weather advisories.

During the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures remained slightly below normal in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kathua recorded the highest temperature in Jammu division at 40.2 degrees Celsius, while Srinagar was the warmest place in Kashmir division at 27.9 degrees Celsius.

The forecast suggests that after several days of intense summer heat, Jammu may witness a spell of unstable weather later this week, bringing both relief from rising temperatures and the possibility of weather-related disruptions.
