Doda: More than three decades after a 1990 double-murder case was registered in south Kashmir, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir has intensified its investigation, with a team from Srinagar visiting Gai Dessa and Bhata Dessa areas of Doda district on Friday.
According to official inputs, an SIA team from Srinagar, headed by DySP SIA Randeer Singh and accompanied by three officials, reached Police Station Gai Dessa in connection with the investigation of FIR No. 45/1990 registered at Police Station Dooru, Anantnag.
After reaching the police station, the team proceeded towards Village Bhata Dessa, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Dessa, to conduct further investigation in connection with the decades-old case.
The SIA team remained engaged in the investigation for several hours in the area.
The SIA’s renewed investigation assumes significance as FIR No. 45/1990 relates to the 1990 double murder of noted Kashmiri Pandit poet, writer and teacher Sarwanand Koul Premi and his son Virender Koul in south Kashmir.
The case has recently returned to focus after the SIA conducted searches at nine locations across Jammu and Kashmir on August 12, including locations in Jammu, Rajouri and Baramulla, as part of its investigation.
According to reports, Premi and his son were abducted during the early period of militancy in 1990 and subsequently killed. Premi was known for his literary work and writings promoting communal harmony and national integration.
The latest visit to Doda indicates that investigators are examining possible leads and individuals connected with the long-pending case beyond the immediate area where the crime occurred.
The SIA’s recent searches were aimed at collecting documents, evidence and other material that could assist investigators in establishing the sequence of events and identifying persons allegedly linked to the killings.
The agency has been revisiting several unresolved militancy-era cases as part of efforts to bring long-pending investigations to their logical conclusion.
No fresh arrest or recovery was reported in connection with the SIA team’s Friday visit to Dessa. The investigation remains underway, with investigators continuing to examine available evidence and possible links to the decades-old case.
