Srinagar: The iconic Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has witnessed an overwhelming response from visitors this season, with more than two lakh tourists visiting the garden so far, Director Floriculture Kashmir said on Friday.
She said that the surge in tourist arrivals began right from the inauguration day, when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially opened the Tulip Garden to the public. On that day alone, more than 5,000 tourists visited the garden, and since then the number of visitors has been increasing steadily day by day.
Highlighting the visitor trend, she noted that while the garden continues to receive a consistent flow of tourists on regular working days, the footfall increases significantly during holidays and weekends. “On weekends and public holidays, the number of visitors ranges between 20,000 to 22,000 in a single day,” she said.
She further attributed the growing tourist turnout to the favorable weather conditions, stating that the cool and pleasant climate has encouraged more people to visit the garden. In addition to domestic tourists, foreign tourist arrivals have also shown a positive trend, with around 600 international visitors recorded so far this season.
Referring to other tourist spots in the city, she mentioned that the nearby Badamwari Garden is also witnessing a steady rise in tourist numbers. She expressed optimism that the influx of visitors to these popular destinations will continue to grow in the coming days, further boosting tourism in the region.
