Srinagar,Jan 20: Minimum temperatures across Kashmir plunged below the freezing mark at most locations, with Sonamarg emerging as the coldest place in the Valley at minus 6.2 degrees Celsius, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.
Across the Jammu region, Jammu city and Katra recorded minimum temperatures of 7.4 degrees Celsius, while Jammu airport settled at 7.6 degrees. Sub-zero conditions were reported from Banihal and Bhaderwah, which recorded minus 1.6 degrees and minus 1.2 degrees, respectively. Udhampur registered 0.8 degrees, Rajouri 0.6 degrees, and Samba 0.4 degrees.
In the Ladakh region, Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 9.0 degrees Celsius, while Hanle remained the coldest location at minus 13.3 degrees, officials said.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a weather advisory stating that two Western Disturbances are likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas between January 22 and 28, 2026. The system is expected to bring widespread rainfall and snowfall, with heavy precipitation at isolated places, the advisory said.
