Jammu, Nov 28: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday called upon poets and writers to play a stronger role in promoting national unity and countering secessionist attempts aimed at dividing and radicalising the youth in the Kashmir Valley.
He was speaking at a Kavi Sammelan organised by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor underlined the vital role of literature in nation-building and urged poets to use their expression to foster a stronger national identity and deeper social cohesion.
He said regional literature must also be promoted to fully tap its potential in strengthening social harmony and contributing to national progress.
“For a self-reliant and developed India, both art and artificial intelligence, science and sanskar are essential,” he said, adding that literature, music and poetry nurture democratic values and offer cultural as well as spiritual nourishment to society.
The LG described poetry as both the foundation of social consciousness and the pinnacle of a society’s resolve. “Poetry acts as a bridge between dreams and their fulfilment. It is a catalyst for individual growth and inspires social transformation,” he noted.
Highlighting the efforts of the UT administration under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Lieutenant Governor said several initiatives have been taken to revive the ancient literary traditions and cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
The past five years, he said, have been decisive for the Union Territory as the administration has worked to provide a safe and culturally enriched environment for the younger generation.
The literary evening featured an enthralling recital by eminent poet Dr. Kumar Vishwas, who remained the main attraction of the event. Renowned poets Sudeep Bhola, Ramesh Muskan, Padmini Sharma and Kushal Kushlendra also presented their works.
The event was attended by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, Northern Region Transmission System-II, Power Grid; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu; SK Chowan, Chief General Manager (Projects), Power Grid; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Dr. Devansh Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Jammu; along with senior officials, prominent citizens, literary personalities and a large number of youth.
