Srinagar: The Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Pulwama, Dr. Noor Mohammad Mir, has convicted Sonaullah Wani, a former Junior Engineer in the Rural Development Department, in a long-pending case of forgery and corruption.
The case, FIR No. 24/2000 of P/S Vigilance Organization Kashmir (now ACB), revealed that Wani had forged his Matriculation Certificate and Service Book, altering his date of birth to extend his service by 21 months beyond the retirement age, unlawfully drawing ₹2,62,760 in salary. Forensic examination and verification by the J&K Board of School Education confirmed the forgery.
The court, after considering documentary, expert, and oral evidence, sentenced Wani to seven years’ simple imprisonment, imposed a fine of Rs 3,52,760, and ordered his lodging at Central Jail Srinagar.
