Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the constitution of a Union Territory Level Census Coordination Committee to ensure smooth planning, implementation, monitoring and timely completion of the Population Census 2027.
As per Government Order No. 1098-JK(GAD) of 2025, the Chief Secretary of J&K will head the panel as Chairman, while the Director, Census Operations, J&K will function as the convener. The committee will also have the Administrative Secretaries of Planning, Development and Monitoring, Finance, Housing and Urban Development, Revenue, School Education, and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj departments as members. The Director Planning, Expenditure Division-II of the Finance Department has also been included in the panel.
The committee has been tasked with overseeing coordination among all agencies at the Union Territory level for the smooth conduct of Census-related activities. It will be responsible for assessing and facilitating the timely availability of resources, logistics, infrastructure and other support required for the operations. In addition, it will periodically review the progress of Census preparations across J&K to ensure that the exercise is carried out efficiently and within the stipulated timelines.
Officials said the constitution of the committee reflects the government’s focus on strengthening institutional mechanisms ahead of the nationwide Population Census 2027. The order was issued by M. Raju, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government.
