Jammu: Five women are among the thirteen accused arrested by Jammu Police as they successfully cracked six theft cases—including two snatching incidents—under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar Police Station. The stolen property recovered in these cases is valued at over ₹27 lakh, police officials confirmed.

The breakthrough came under the overall supervision of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, with SP City South Ajay Kumar Sharma, SDPO Sunil Singh Jasrotia, and SHO Gandhi Nagar Police Station leading the investigations.

SP South Ajay Sharma said that multiple complaints were received regarding chain snatching, motorcycle theft, and burglary involving construction materials in Gandhi Nagar and Shastri Nagar areas. Utilizing CCTV footage and Smart City surveillance, police identified and arrested five key suspects: Pardeep Singh, Virinder Singh, Mohd. Sadiq, Fazal Hussain, and Chandan Kumar. A stolen scooty (JK02DC-5835), snatched gold chains, and other valuables were recovered from their possession.

In another major case, five women from Barnala, Punjab were arrested for allegedly stealing BSNL telecom infrastructure near the back gate of DPL Jammu. A case under FIR No. 145/2025 U/S 303(2) BNS was registered in this regard. The arrested women have been identified as Banti (wife of Lutera), Sapni (wife of Ashok), Babli (wife of Garibdas), Rajani (wife of Sanjay), and Salochana (wife of Jarnail Singh). The police recovered 8–10 kg of stolen copper wire from them.

Police also solved a high-profile house burglary case reported on May 9, in which jewellery worth ₹21 lakh was stolen from a residence in Preet Nagar, Jammu. The complainant, Gurjeet Kour, had reported the theft that occurred during the night of May 7–8. Acting swiftly, police registered FIR No. 113/2025 under Sections 331(2), 331(4), and 305 BNS at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and launched a focused investigation through Police Post Digiana.

The accused in the Preet Nagar case—Safar Ansari (23), a native of Kishanganj, Bihar; Ibrahim (25), from Behraich, Uttar Pradesh; and a minor—were all apprehended, and most of the stolen gold and diamond jewellery was recovered.

SP South Ajay Sharma commended the efforts of the police teams and emphasized the role of technology, inter-departmental coordination, and swift action in solving these cases. He reiterated the police department’s commitment to maintaining law and order and taking strict action against all criminal elements.
