Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday announced the regularisation of non-teaching employees at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, fulfilling a long-pending demand of staff in the lower and middle categories who had been working on five-year renewable contracts.
Addressing the 22nd Foundation Day of the University through video conference, the Lieutenant Governor said the decision to end the contract system reaffirms the government’s commitment to fairness, talent retention and professional growth.
“This move will provide employees with a renewed sense of stability in their jobs, empowering them to contribute to the university’s development with greater confidence and dedication,” he said.
In his address, Sinha praised the University as a “beacon of knowledge, innovation and cultural pride” and congratulated its faculty, staff and students for securing a place among the country’s top 100 universities. He highlighted the institution’s growth into a multi-disciplinary centre aligned with the National Education Policy, with rising enrolment in new-age programmes like Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
The Lieutenant Governor urged faculty to foster a skill-driven learning environment and called upon students to dedicate their knowledge to nation-building. He also appealed to alumni to address societal needs and contribute to strengthening the University.
Sinha further expressed grief over the loss of lives in the recent natural calamities in Kishtwar and Kathua, assuring that the government, with full support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, is working on a war footing to ensure relief and rehabilitation for affected families.
The event was attended by senior officials, members of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, faculty, staff and students.
