Srinagar: One person died and four others, including three Amarnath Yatris, were injured in two separate road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
In the first incident, a Dumper truck collided head-on with a Tata Sumo near a petrol pump in Sheeri, Baramulla. The Dumper was coming from Uri, while the Sumo was headed towards Uri. The crash killed Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Trekanjal Boniyar, on the spot. Two others sustained minor injuries and were given first aid.
Police from Sheeri Police Station arrested the Dumper driver and seized the vehicle. An investigation is underway.
In a separate incident near Chandanwari in Anantnag district, a taxi carrying Amarnath pilgrims skidded off the road early in the morning, leaving three yatris from Gujarat and the driver with minor injuries. All four were given medical care and are in stable condition.
Authorities have advised caution, especially for pilgrims and transport operators, as monsoon rains continue to affect road conditions across the Union Territory.
