Srinagar, Aug 1: Heavy rainfall led to flooding in parts of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, leaving several residential areas waterlogged and disrupting normal life. The downpour resulted in floodwaters entering multiple houses and affecting a government school, officials said.
The worst-hit area was Pahlipora village, where rainwater inundated homes, forcing residents to seek assistance as water levels continued to rise. Following the reports, teams from the Police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the district administration immediately reached the affected areas and launched rescue and relief operations.
Officials said emergency teams are working to drain the accumulated water from residential localities and are keeping a close watch on the situation. Families living in vulnerable areas are being shifted to safer places wherever necessary to prevent any further risk.
Authorities have also started assessing the damage caused by the flooding to residential properties and public infrastructure. According to officials, several houses and a school have suffered damage due to the inundation.
The administration has urged residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious and cooperate with rescue teams as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
