Jammu: A drug peddler was booked under the PIT-NDPS Act, while a house and a goods carrier belonging to another were attached in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Saturday, police said.

Separately, police arrested two drug peddlers along with narcotics and cash in Kathua and Jammu districts and destroyed wild cannabis spread over five acres of land in Doda district, a police spokesman said.

On the directions of the Jammu divisional commissioner, Bagh Shah, a drug peddler from Karandi Kalan village in Kathua, was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, and subsequently lodged in the district jail in Kishtwar, the spokesman said.

In another case, police attached a single-storey residential house and a goods carrier belonging to Sultan Ahmed, a resident of Marheen, under the provisions of the NDPS Act.

The property, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh, is believed to have been acquired using the proceeds of drug trafficking, the spokesman said.

Police also arrested a drug peddler from Punjab, and, based on his disclosure, recovered 50 grams of heroin and Rs 1 lakh in cash from the premises of a government primary school in the Marheen area of Kathua, reportedly concealed there by his brother Farman Ali.

In another case, police destroyed wild cannabis spread over five acres of land in different parts of Doda district, the spokesman said.

In Jammu, police arrested Parveen Kumar alias Pinna, a resident of ChorliKothey village, with 4.80 grams of heroin from the outskirts of the city, he said.

The actions were part of the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan launched on April 11 by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
