SEPT 12: With regard to sharing the bogus information on social media podium pertaining to the detention of another legislator – MLA Doda Mehraj Malik – the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has issued Show Case Notice to MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Para.
It is learnt that Speaker of the Legislative Assembly has issued notice to MLA Pulwama.
According to the reports, Assembly Secretariat received an official communication on 8 September 2025 from Harvinder Singh, DC Doda, about the detention of MLA Mehraj Malik under PSA.
Since the House wasn’t operational, the Speaker directed that this information be published in the Assembly Bulletin for the information of the other Members.
Following this, Para posted on X, “Shameful surrender. Assembly Secretariat endorsing PSA against an elected MLA is a direct assault on democracy. J&K CM @OmarAbdullah must act, don’t allow the institution of MLA, the last agency of the people, to be silenced. Today it’s Mehraj, tomorrow it could be you.”
The Secretariat stated that through this post, Para meant that the Assembly Secretariat favoured the PSA against an elected Member, which as per Para is ‘undemocratic’.
It has been noted that such a public statement, made by MLA minimizes the dignity of the Speaker and Legislative Assembly.
The Speaker has directed that Para be asked to show cause within seven days of receipt of the notice, either in writing or in person, to explain why contempt proceedings should not be started against him.
