Srinagar, June 11: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) president Farooq Abdullah said all political parties should unite for the restoration of statehood, describing it as a common cause for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah said the National Conference’s planned protest in Delhi would proceed as scheduled and any party supporting the demand was welcome to join. He reiterated that the party would continue its constitutional struggle for the restoration of statehood and the rights of the people.
He also criticised the existing power structure in the Union Territory, saying the elected government should have greater authority instead of key powers remaining with the Lieutenant Governor.
On Jammu and Kashmir’s political future, Abdullah said lasting stability would depend on honouring commitments made to the region. Asked about the restoration of the identity lost after the abrogation of Article 370, he said only those in power in Delhi and Allah knew the answer.
The NC leader also expressed concern over reports of civilian killings in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and urged the UNHRC to look into the situation.
