Two militants killed in encounter in J&K's Sopore

Baramulla, Jul 23: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore district of north Kashmir on Friday, police said.

A joint Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) and CRPF on a tip-off about the presence of militants at Warpora, Sopore late Thursday night, a police spokesman said.

An encounter broke out when militants hiding there opened fire on security forces with automatic weapons, he said.

Additional security forces were deployed to foil any attempt by militants to escape. This morning, with the first light, security forces killed an ultra. Later, another militant was also neutralized. Operation was going on when reports last came in.

Security has also been tightened in the adjoining areas to prevent any law and order problem, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range Vijay Kumar congratulating the security forces said one the slain militant has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad, who was involved in several attacks on security forces and civilians.
