Five km Ramban-Gool Road sink, restoration work underway: Official

Jammu: At least 16 houses have been damaged and road connectivity between Gool and Ramban snapped following the “sinking of land” in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district.
Sources said that 16 residential houses have developed cracks in Pernote area of Ramban. “The families have been shifted to safer places. The road has been blocked and no vehicles are allowed to ply on along the route,” they said.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary in a post on X stated that the power supply has got affected while the restoration work for road connectivity is underway.
“Massive subsidence/sinking at km 5 on Ramban-Gool Road! Road blocked, all vehicles halted. Restoration work underway for road connectivity and power supply affected by road sinking. Ramban-Gool road currently blocked,” DC Ramban wrote on X.
He further directed immediate restoration of road connectivity, electricity and availability of essential services including placing of Ambulance at landslide site between Ramban-Gool main road at Pernote.
“Residential houses are stated to have developed minor to major cracks after a massive portion of 5-km Ramban-Gool road caved-in, disconnecting over 60,000 people from the main town.We are on job”, said Sub Inspector Shiv Dutt who was present on the spot.
Pointing out that nearly 1 sq km area on the upper side of the Ramban-Gool road was affected due to sinking, official sources said that all the affected families have been shifted to safer places.
The land sinking started on Thursday and so far 16 houses are reported to be damaged, with three of them developing cracks.
They further said that GREF, PWD, JPDCL & Jal Shakti Departments have been advised to assess the impact on infrastructure for remedial action. An expert team from the Geological Survey of India (GSI) is expected to arrive to ascertain the reasons behind the sinking of land.
Pertinently, on Februrary 2023, sinking of land” at DuksarDalwa village in the Sangaldan took place prompting thenRamban Deputy Commissioner Mussarat Islam to visit DuksarDalwa.
