Ganderbal, June 5:Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said significant progress has been achieved under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, with 1,036 FIRs registered, 1,128 suspected drug smugglers arrested, and more than 100 properties linked to alleged traffickers attached.
Addressing participants during the Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign in Ganderbal, Sinha said the Union Territory was witnessing an unprecedented public movement against narco-terrorism. He stated that authorities had intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect young people from the growing menace.
The Lieutenant Governor joined a foot march in the district, accompanied by residents and representatives from different sections of society. The anti-drug initiative, launched on April 11, aims to eliminate drug abuse and trafficking across Jammu and Kashmir.
Since the campaign began, Sinha has led awareness marches in districts across the Union Territory, drawing widespread public participation and support.
Highlighting the results achieved so far, he said that during the past 55 days, authorities had not only registered over a thousand cases and arrested more than 1,100 suspects, but had also attached over 100 properties allegedly linked to drug networks. In addition, nearly 700 driving licences were cancelled, while recommendations were submitted for the cancellation of passports belonging to 130 suspected drug smugglers.
Recalling the launch of the campaign from Jammu, Sinha said the administration had adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards drug trafficking and narco-terrorism. He added that what started as a government-led initiative had evolved into a broad public movement driven by community participation and a shared commitment to safeguarding future generations.
According to the Lieutenant Governor, the campaign reflects a collective determination to combat drug abuse and dismantle networks involved in narcotics-related activities across the region.
