SAHIL BHAT

SEPT 30: With Leh town reeling under the curfew for a week, the authorities have announced the relaxation of the restrictions for four hours on Tuesday.

The restrictions are believed to get downgraded from 10 am on Tuesday, wherein, the business fraternity is asked to open their establishments.

Notably, the restrictions were relaxed for two hours from 4 pm on Monday, shortly following the last rites of four people who lost their lives in the widespread vociferous protest against the law enforcement agencies on September 24.

The officials have said further relaxation will depend on the emerging situation that will rise in the day.

Besides, Additional DM Leh, Ghulam Mohammed has ordered the opening of all groceries, essential services, and other shops amid the relaxation period.

Heavy deployment of the Police and the Paramilitary Forces has been done in sensitive areas to thwart any untoward incident. Besides, there was no violation of the law and order.

On Monday, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta chaired a high-level security review meeting for the assessment of the current situation.

LG Kavinder said, “It is requested to all sections of society to maintain unity and harmony and don’t fall prey to the designs of anti-social and anti-national elements. The administration stands firmly with the people and will ensure their safety, dignity and progress.”

As per the officials, the mobile internet services continued to be cut off in Leh town, and prohibitory orders restricting the assembly of five or more persons are still in force in major parts of UT Ladakh.

Pertinent to mention, a curfew was imposed in Leh town on the evening of September 24, following the violent protests over demands for the Statehood and inclusion of the Sixth Schedule to Ladakh.
