Srinagar, Sept 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday approved the J&K Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to bring self-reliant cooperative societies under the existing cooperative law.
The legislation provides for the repeal of the J&K Self-Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999 and proposes to bring societies currently governed by it under the J&K Cooperative Societies Act, 1989.
To facilitate the shift, the Bill includes transitional provisions for self-reliant cooperative societies as they move to the framework of the 1989 Act.
Cooperatives Minister Javid Ahmad Dar moved the Bill in the House for consideration and passage during the ongoing autumn session.
The legislation was listed as L.A. Bill No. 9 of 2026 in the Assembly’s List of Business for Tuesday.
