Srinagar, Sept 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned on Monday by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather following protests by BJP legislators on the opening day of the Autumn Session. The protesting MLAs entered the well of the House and raised slogans against the National Conference-led government, disrupting proceedings shortly after the session began.
Despite interventions from the Speaker, the opposition legislators continued their protest, leading to an uproar in the Assembly. The Speaker eventually adjourned the proceedings amid continued sloganeering.
The BJP is expected to raise several issues during the session, including employment, outsourcing, regularisation of daily-wage workers, power tariffs and concerns of NHM employees. On the opening day, BJP legislators also displayed placards highlighting issues related to electricity tariffs, regularisation of daily wagers and NHM employees.
The Autumn Session is scheduled to continue from September 21 to 30, with seven sittings planned over the 10-day period. Opposition parties, including the BJP and PDP, are expected to raise matters concerning governance, employment, reservation and public services.
