In its Tuesday edition, The News Now, under heading ‘Police complaints against Iltija Mufti or calling Hindutva as Disease’ had already reported the matter.
“Ms. Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, has made derogatory remarks on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) against Lord Ram and the Hindu community. She has also referred to Hindutva as a “disease.” These statements have hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community and are likely to incite disharmony among different groups. On this, a case FIR No. 61/2024 U/S 299/BNS has been registered in the Police Station Bus Stand Jammu against her. Her statement hurt religious sentiments and promoted enmity between different communities”, said a senior police officer.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti’s recent “Hindutva is a disease” remark has sparked a political row with the ruling BJP accusing Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter of creating a divide in society.
Soon after her statement went viral, Rakesh Bajrangi, the State President of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, Monday lodged a formal complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police, (SSP)Jammu, against Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti. The complainant strongly condemned the statement, claiming it hurt the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus and fostered hatred and intolerance. Rakesh Bajrangi had urged the authorities to take immediate action by registering an FIR under relevant legal provisions for promoting enmity and disturbing communal harmony. He emphasized the need for prompt action to uphold the law and maintain societal peace.
“Ram the deity must hang his head in shame & watch helplessly as minor Muslim boys are whacked with chappals only because they refuse to chant his name. Hindutva is a disease that’s afflicted millions of Indians & sullied God’s name,” Iltija Mufti said after a video of 3 minor Muslim boys being forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Madhya Pradesh went viral on social media.
Reacting to her comment, BJP’s Ravinder Raina said that her statement was irresponsible and objectionable.
