Srinagar, April 29: In a serious case involving alleged fraud and human trafficking, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir in Srinagar has registered a formal case after a man was reportedly deceived by a fake job consultancy and trafficked to Cambodia on the promise of overseas employment.
Officials said the action followed a complaint from the victim, who claimed he was approached by an unauthorized consultancy operating from the Pattan area. The consultancy allegedly offered him a well-paid job abroad as a computer operator, persuading him to transfer a substantial amount of money to their bank account. The victim also reportedly incurred additional expenses on travel and related arrangements.
Preliminary findings suggest that upon arrival in Cambodia, the man was received by unknown individuals who allegedly attempted to force him into participating in fraudulent online activities instead of providing the promised job. The victim refused to comply and later realized that he had been cheated and his money taken under false pretenses.
Authorities stated that the allegations reveal offences punishable under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Accordingly, a formal case has been registered at the Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar, and further investigation into the matter is in progress.
