ANANTNAG, June 10: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the Centre remains committed to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, Abdullah said the party is awaiting the fulfilment of the promise made by the Union Government regarding statehood.
“Statehood was a commitment made by the Centre, and we are waiting for it to be implemented,” Abdullah said.
The National Conference has announced a protest in New Delhi on the opening day of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament to press for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s legislators chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier this month.
