Srinagar, July 28: The body of a 25-year-old man from Balhama, Srinagar, who had gone missing after reportedly jumping into the River Jhelum near Sempora in the Pantha Chowk area, was recovered on Tuesday after an extensive five-day search operation.
The deceased has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Mir, a resident of Balhama. According to officials, he allegedly entered the river on July 23, prompting an immediate rescue and search operation.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), including the Quick Response Team (QRT) based at Pantha Chowk and the SDRF Battalion Headquarters in Srinagar, carried out the operation with the assistance of local volunteers. Search teams continued combing different stretches of the River Jhelum for several days.
After sustained efforts, the body was finally located and retrieved on Tuesday, bringing the search operation to a close.
Police have taken up the matter, and the required legal formalities are being completed.
