MARCH 15: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Jewel Chowk in Jammu.
The drive aimed to clear the footpath and ease traffic congestion by removing the cards of street vendors. The law enforcement officers were witnessed seizing the goods as part of anti-encroachment drive.
JMC official had stated, “Encroachment not good, it mars the way for the vehicular movement and prevent pedestrians from smooth walk.”
With administration maintaining its stern stance, several street vendors highlighted their plight and added there is lack of designated vending zones.
“We are poor and why are only we targeted. This is a selective act,” said street vendors
Several vendors said that if the administration cannot provide more spaces, they should impose fine on the culprits instead of confiscation.
