No Chances of forming Govt with NC: LoP Sunil Sharma

SRINAGAR: Both National Conference (NC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have rebuffed the rumors of joining hands for a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir.
The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday rejected reports suggesting that the party is in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for a potential alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, calling them “baseless” and “irresponsible.”
Leader of the opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Kumar Sharma, said there are no chances of the BJP allying with the National Conference (NC) to form a government in J&K. Sharma emphasized that the party would seek answers from the government over issues faced by the common masses in the Union Territory.
Speaking to media persons, NC spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq dismissed the claims made by a local newspaper, stating that they were completely unfounded.
“The report is totally baseless and highly irresponsible on the part of the newspaper. As for Dr. Farooq Abdullah, he has been in Mumbai, not Delhi, as incorrectly mentioned. Similarly, Omar Abdullah’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah was a routine engagement. He has met the Home Minister multiple times in the past, and no special arrangement was made for this meeting,” Sadiq clarified.
He reiterated that the NC contested the elections against the BJP and remains firm in its opposition to the party’s policies. “Our stance against the BJP has been clear. The NC categorically refutes such speculative reports. Media houses spreading such misinformation will not be entertained by the party in the future,” he warned.
Sadiq further explained that while the party maintains a working relationship with the Centre, it does not imply a political alignment. “The BJP and NC can never share the same platform. However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, like any other state leader, meets the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and other central leaders in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Speculations about a possible political development in J&K have been circulating, especially after reports claimed that Dr. Farooq Abdullah has been in Delhi for the past four days. A media outlet also alleged that he facilitated a meeting between Omar Abdullah and Amit Shah and has been engaging with top BJP leaders, hinting at a potential rapprochement in the “larger interest” of the Union Territory.
However, the NC has firmly rejected these claims, reaffirming its commitment to opposing the BJP and its policies.
Sunil Sharma asserted that there is no question of forming a government with the NC. “We are in opposition, and we will play a role of constructive opposition and seek answers from the Omar Abdullah-led government over issues faced by the general public,” said Sharma, who is considered close to top BJP leadership.
