Jammu: The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, emphasized the vital role of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in shaping the future of young individuals by instilling discipline, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He was speaking at a felicitation event at the Convention Centre, where he honored the NCC cadets of the Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh Directorate for their outstanding achievements at the Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2025.
Addressing the cadets, the Chief Minister lauded their dedication and the immense pride they have brought to the Union Territory.
He specifically praised Senior Under Officer (SUO) Ekta Kumari for leading the All India NCC Girls Marching Contingent as Parade Commander on Kartavya Path and recognized JUO Abida Afreen, who received the prestigious Raksha Mantri Commendation Card and has been selected for the upcoming Mt. Everest expedition.
The Chief Minister also appreciated SUO Ulfat Khan for commanding the Prime Minister’s Rally during RDC 2024.
The event, organized to celebrate the achievements of the NCC Directorate under the leadership of Additional Director General Major General Anupinder Bevli, VSM, highlighted the remarkable performances of the cadets. The contingent secured a Raksha Mantri Commendation, four DG NCC Commendation Cards, ten DG NCC Medallions, and finished as second runner-up in both Group Dance and Ballet competitions.
Omar Abdullah urged NCC cadets to actively engage in social causes, particularly in addressing the growing menace of drug abuse among youth. Recognizing NCC’s influence within communities, he encouraged cadets to lead awareness campaigns, conduct educational programs, and work towards building a healthier society.
“The NCC has always been a beacon of discipline and nation-building. I urge cadets not only to uphold these values but also to contribute to social causes. By spreading awareness about drug abuse and leading preventive initiatives, the NCC can play a transformative role in safeguarding the future of our youth,” he stated.
The Chief Minister assured the government’s full support for NCC-led initiatives focusing on youth empowerment, community engagement, and drug abuse prevention. Expressing confidence in their leadership and commitment, he stated that NCC cadets would continue to make a positive impact on society while upholding the honor of the Union Territory and the nation.
The ceremony concluded with the NCC Song and National Anthem, followed by a group photograph and a tea session.
