Jammu, October 26: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders staged a protest in Jammu against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his reported remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The protesters condemned the statement and demanded that Kharge withdraw his words and issue a public apology.
The controversy began after Kharge’s speech in Patna on Sunday during an event marking the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Krishna Singh. While raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Kharge accused the BJP of weakening democratic processes and said those responsible for the alleged irregularities would be sent to jail.
During the speech, an audience member reportedly said that Modi would not leave office. In response, Kharge made the remark, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega,” which drew criticism from BJP leaders.
BJP leaders Sunil Sharma, Shagun Parihar and Sat Sharma condemned Kharge’s statement, accusing him of using inappropriate language against the Prime Minister.
The protest added to the political exchange between the BJP and Congress following Kharge’s remarks in Patna.
