Srinagar, Sept 22: The Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K, has ordered an immediate ban on the sale, storage, distribution and display of suspected fake milk products across Jammu and Kashmir.
The action was taken after laboratory testing of samples collected from different locations found certain products not in compliance with prescribed food safety and quality standards.
Under the order issued by FDA Commissioner Khalid Jahangir, IAS, all concerned Food Business Operators, manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers have been directed to immediately stop dealing in the affected products.
The concerned businesses have also been asked to separate the affected batches and keep them in safe custody. They cannot sell, transfer or release the stock without approval from the competent Food Safety Authority.
All concerned operators must submit details of the affected stock, including batch number, quantity and manufacturing or expiry date, to the concerned Designated Officer within 48 hours.
Food Safety Officers have been directed to carry out inspections and ensure that the affected products are identified and withdrawn from the market.
The FDA has further ordered that the seized products be disposed of according to the prescribed procedure. Any person found violating the order will face action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and other applicable regulations.
The prohibitory order was issued on September 22, 2026, under the relevant provisions of food safety laws and regulations.
