New Delhi, September 5: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at 89 locations across 20 States and arrested three persons in connection with three major “Digital Arrest” cyber fraud cases involving approximately ₹42.36 crore.

The action was carried out under Operation Chakra-VI against suspected cybercrime networks accused of impersonating police officers, government officials and other law-enforcement personnel to threaten and extort victims.

The three cases involve victims from BITS Pilani, Gujarat and Karnataka, who were allegedly kept under digital arrest for periods ranging from one to nearly three months. They were reportedly cheated of around ₹7.67 crore, ₹19.24 crore and ₹15.45 crore, respectively.

During the searches, the CBI recovered bank records, transaction documents, electronic devices and other digital evidence to trace the alleged money trail and identify more suspects.

The three arrested accused have been identified as Akash from Haryana, Rajiv Kamarkar from Kolkata and Jyoti Rani. They allegedly played roles in receiving and transferring the fraud proceeds through multiple accounts.

Further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network behind the alleged Digital Arrest scams.
