Jammu, July 25: Himachal Pradesh Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta on Saturday unveiled Beyond the Himalayas: Rediscovering India’s Forgotten Geography, a new book by Jammu-based author, geopolitical analyst and technology professional Bharat Nanda, at a function held in Jammu.

The book examines India’s historical and civilisational links beyond the Himalayas, highlighting the ancient trade routes, Buddhist centres, caravan towns and cultural exchanges that connected the Indian subcontinent with Tibet, Xinjiang and Central Asia. Drawing on historical maps, manuscripts, archaeological findings and travel records, it presents the Himalayas as a bridge for the exchange of ideas, faith, knowledge and trade rather than a geographical barrier.

Speaking at the event, Governor Kavinder Gupta praised the author’s efforts to bring focus to an important but often overlooked chapter of India’s rich civilisational history. Bharat Nanda said the book aims to help readers rediscover India’s historical ties with the trans-Himalayan region through well-researched and easy-to-understand narratives.

Intended for students, history enthusiasts and general readers, the book sheds light on the significance of places such as Khotan, Kucha, Agni-desa, Turpan, Aksu, Yarkand, Kashgar, Aksai Chin, Demchok and Taklakot, while offering a fresh perspective on India’s cultural influence across Asia.

The unveiling marked the formal launch of the book, which seeks to enrich discussions on India’s civilisational heritage and historical geography.
