SRINAGAR, June 30: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, VK Birdi, said elaborate security arrangements have been made for the annual Amarnath Yatra, with all security agencies working in close coordination to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Birdi said extensive mock drills and tabletop exercises have been conducted to prepare for emergencies and clearly define the responsibilities of all agencies involved.
He said special focus has been placed on vulnerable stretches of the Yatra route that are prone to landslides, avalanches and glacial movement. Medical Response Teams (MRTs) and rescue personnel have also been deployed at key locations to provide immediate assistance in case of any emergency.
The IGP added that surveillance along the pilgrimage route has been strengthened through continuous monitoring, including from elevated locations, to ensure effective security throughout the Yatra.
