Srinagar, May 23: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday said the Peoples Democratic Party cannot distance itself from the political developments that changed Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional and political landscape over the years.

While speaking to reporters, Abdullah remarked that parties should first examine their own role before blaming rivals for the present situation in the Union Territory. He alleged that the PDP’s past political choices had adversely affected the interests of the people.

Taking a dig at the BJP, the veteran leader claimed that the party was relying heavily on political rhetoric instead of focusing on issues concerning the public. He added that the National Conference was not answerable for BJP’s political agenda.

Abdullah also dismissed rumours regarding any disagreement within the opposition bloc and asserted that the alliance remains stable despite speculation in political circles.

On international issues, he expressed concern over rising tensions involving Iran and hoped that the situation would calm down peacefully.

Responding to a question about the demolition drive in Sidra, Jammu, he said the matter was being looked into by authorities and refrained from making further observations.

He also reacted to PDP’s recent remarks comparing the political environment in Jammu and Kashmir with Uttar Pradesh, saying the party should reflect on the impact of its own governance before making such statements.
