Poonch | April 17: Panic and fear swept through parts of Poonch after a sudden spate of stray dog attacks left three people, including a young child, injured, once again drawing attention to the growing menace of stray animals in the town.
According to local sources, the attacks took place in separate localities, catching residents off guard and causing alarm in the community. The injured victims sustained bite wounds and were quickly rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment. Medical officials said all three are currently in stable condition.
The incidents have intensified concerns among residents, who say the increasing number of stray dogs roaming streets and residential areas poses a serious risk, particularly to children and elderly citizens.
Angry locals have urged the administration to act swiftly, demanding immediate measures such as sterilization drives, vaccination campaigns, and proper management of stray dogs to prevent further attacks and ensure public safety.
Rising Concern Across Jammu and Kashmir
The stray dog menace has emerged as a serious public health issue across Jammu and Kashmir, with health department data indicating that more than one lakh dog bite cases are reported annually in the Union Territory. Several districts, including Srinagar, Jammu, and Poonch, have witnessed a steady rise in such incidents in recent years.
