Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Wednesday announced the results of the annual regular examinations for Classes 10 and 12, recording strong overall performance with 85.03 per cent students qualifying Class 10 and 84 per cent clearing Class 12, even as girls continued to outperform boys across both levels.
For Class 10, an overall 85.03 per cent pass percentage was recorded. Girls once again led the results with a pass percentage of 87.78 per cent, while 84.30 per cent boys qualified the examination.
In total, 94,845 students were enrolled for the Class 10 annual regular exams, out of which 80,650 students passed, while 14,147 failed to qualify.
Region-wise data showed that Kashmir division recorded a higher pass percentage of 87.63 per cent, while Jammu division registered 77.89 per cent. Of the total candidates, 68,804 students were from the ten districts of Kashmir division, 25,224 from the eight winter-zone districts of Jammu division, besides 660 students from Kargil and 95 from Leh. The examinations were conducted across 994 examination centres.
The Class 10 examinations were held in October–November, following a truncated academic calendar.
Ahead of the exams, JKBOSE had announced a 15 per cent syllabus relaxation for Classes 10, 11 and 12, citing delayed academic sessions and disruptions caused by heatwaves, torrential rains, cloudbursts and floods.
As per the notification, students were required to attempt 85 per cent of the syllabus, which was treated equivalent to 100 per cent marks.
Meanwhile, Class 12 results also reflected a robust outcome, with 59,435 of the 70,735 enrolled students qualifying the examination.
Girls once again outperformed boys, with 86 per cent girls passing, compared to 82 per cent boys.
The results showed that 33,549 students (nearly 47 per cent) secured distinctions by scoring above 75 per cent marks.
Additionally, 21,889 students secured first division, 3,963 second division, and 34 third division. A total of 312 students failed, while 10,988 have been asked to reappear.
Among the stream-wise toppers, students from both government and private institutions featured prominently.
In the Science stream, Hafsa of Kashmir Harvard Higher Secondary School, Habak, topped with a perfect 500 marks, followed closely by four students — Aidah Nasti, Asra, Athar Aijaz Shah and Azka Rafiq Bhat — who secured 499 marks.
In Commerce, Sauliha Nabi Wani of Harvard Higher Secondary School, Habak led with 498 marks, followed by Huran Gulzar, Maryam Ashraf, Muneeza Hakeem and Areeba Iqbal Gunjoo.
In the Arts stream, Tabin Reyaz of Government Higher Secondary School Mattan topped with 500 marks, followed by Iqra Hussain, Aaliya Altaf, Ambreen Mushtaq and Haiyrah, all scoring between 498 and 499 marks.
In Home Science, Adiba Yaqoob of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh secured the top position with 483 marks, followed by Iman Taqween, Rabia Ashraf, Taraffuh Qureshi and Arooja Ajaz.
Congratulating the successful candidates, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the results reflected students’ resilience despite academic disruptions. She encouraged those who did not qualify to remain hopeful and continue working hard to achieve their future goals.
