Jammu: Jammu Police on Wednesday busted an illegal spa operation during a series of surprise raids conducted across the South Zone, leading to the detention of a Thai national and the registration of a case against the Haryana-based owner of the spa, who has reportedly fled.
The action followed repeated complaints from members of civil society alleging illegal and immoral activities at certain spa centres operating under the jurisdiction of Police Station Channi Himmat in Sub-Division East, Jammu.
Police teams led by the Station House Officer of Channi Himmat, accompanied by lady police personnel and an Executive Magistrate, carried out simultaneous inspections at multiple spa centres. During the raids, officials conducted detailed checks of premises, scrutinised records and registers, and seized digital video recorders and other incriminating material from establishments found suspicious. Several individuals were also detained for questioning as part of the investigation.
During one such raid, the police team inspected O2 Spa Centre located on the National Highway at Channi, Jammu. A female staff member, identified as a national of Thailand, was found working at the centre and was apprehended and brought to the police station for questioning.
Following preliminary verification, Jammu Police registered FIR No. 237/2025 under Section 24 of the Immigration/Foreigners Act and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case has been lodged against the spa owner, Jai Singh, son of Suraj Singh, a resident of Kurukshetra in Haryana, for employing a foreign national without the required permission or prior intimation to the competent authorities.
Police said the accused owner is currently absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO East and SP City South, with overall supervision by SSP Jammu. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether a larger network is involved in similar illegal activities in the city.
