Jammu: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved a major round of promotions for Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers serving in the Jammu and Kashmir segment of the AGMUT cadre, clearing elevations across senior, selection and junior administrative levels.
According to official orders, Seven IAS officers have been promoted to the Super Time Scale. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has been promoted notionally with effect from January 1, 2025, with actual benefits from the date of assumption of charge.
Prasanna Ramaswamy, Ram Niwas Sharma, Talat Parvez Rohella, Rukshana Gani, Rehana Batul and Mir Tariq Ali have been promoted to the Super Time Scale with effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later.
The ministry has also cleared the promotion of 13 IAS officers to the Selection Grade with effect from January 1, 2026.
The officers include Avny Lavasa, Anshul Garg, Vikas Kundal, Nidhi Malik, Nazim Khan, Shakeel-ul-Rehman Rather, Pradeep Kumar, Rahul Sharma, Narinder Bali, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat and Majid Khalil Ahmad Drabu.
Dr Shah Faesal and Sheikh Arshad Ayub, who are currently on central deputation, have been granted Selection Grade promotion on a proforma basis.
Further, three IAS officers have been promoted to the Junior Administrative Grade. They are Ayushi Sudan, Deputy Commissioner Samba; Bilal Mohiuddin, Deputy Commissioner Budgam; and Minga Sherpa, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla.
In a parallel order, the three IPS officers of the J&K segment have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP). Tejinder Singh has been elevated to the IGP rank with effect from January 1, 2026. Two officers currently on central deputation—Abdul Jabbar and Udaybhaskar Billa—have been granted proforma promotion to the IGP grade.
The MHA has also approved the promotion of eight IPS officers to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) rank with effect from January 1, 2026. Those promoted are Sargun Shukla, Sandeep Wazir, Anita Sharma, Jatinder Singh Johar, Swarn Singh Kotwal, Zahid Naseem Manhas and Dr Koushal Kumar Sharma.
Sandeep Choudhary, presently on deputation with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has been granted proforma promotion to the DIG rank.
In addition, ten IPS officers have been promoted to the Selection Grade (Level-13) with effect from January 1, 2026. The officers include Ashish Kumar Mishra, Nagpure Amod Ashok, Gurinder Pal Singh, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Bakar Hussain Samoon, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Ranjit Singh Samyal and Mohammad Yaseen Kichloo. Chandan Kohli, who is on central deputation, has been granted proforma promotion to the Selection Grade.
Six IPS officers have also been promoted to the Junior Administrative Grade (JAG, Level-12). They are Bisma Qazi, Tanushree, Sahil Sarangal, Anayat Ali Choudhary, Nikhil Borkar and Mohita Sharma.
The promotions are part of routine cadre management and are expected to strengthen administrative and policing leadership across Jammu and Kashmir.
