New Delhi, November 21: Highlighting the growing prominence of Hindi on the national and global stage, the Hon’ble Lt Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta said that Hindi today stands not just as a means of communication but as a powerful carrier of India’s cultural, emotional and civilizational identity. He noted that the widespread acceptance of Hindi across diverse regions, its expanding academic footprint, and its increasing use in international forums reflect India’s rising confidence and cultural resurgence.
The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Kavinder Gupta was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day International Conference on ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya: Symbol of Nationalism and Humanity’, organised jointly by the Vishwa Hindi Parishad and the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, to mark the 110th birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
The grand conference, held at Vigyan Bhawan, brought together distinguished scholars, linguists, administrators, academicians and personalities from India and abroad who presented their views on the life, philosophy and contributions of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
The event was formally inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the chief guests—Lt Governor of Ladakh Shri Kavinder Gupta, former Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’, and ICPR Member Secretary Prof. Sachchidanand Mishra.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta emphasized that promoting Hindi is essential for strengthening national integration and preserving India’s timeless heritage. He maintained that Hindi, with its deep-rooted literary tradition and cultural resonance, has the potential to unite diverse communities across the nation. He said that the growing aspiration among young Indians to learn, speak and work in Hindi demonstrates a renewed pride in India’s civilizational ethos.
Shri Kavinder Gupta said that the present government at the Centre is following the guiding philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s Ekatma Manav Darshan (Integral Humanism) to serve humanity and strengthen the spirit of nationalism. He emphasized that Hindi is not merely a language but the emotional, cultural and civilizational thread that binds India. He praised the efforts of the Vishwa Hindi Parishad for promoting Hindi globally and strengthening India’s cultural identity.
The Lt Governor highlighted the increasing enthusiasm for Hindi among the youth of Ladakh, noting that Ladakh’s linguistic and cultural diversity—Bhoti, Urdu, Hindi and local dialects—adds richness to India’s civilizational heritage. He reaffirmed the UT Administration’s commitment to promote initiatives that strengthen language, culture and education in the region.
The Lt Governor lauded Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for giving unprecedented global recognition to Hindi. He said that the Prime Minister’s speeches at the United Nations and other international forums in Hindi have elevated India’s soft power and cultural diplomacy worldwide.
In his concluding remarks, the Lt Governor urged the youth to stay connected with India’s language, culture and values while embracing innovation and global opportunities. He said that India’s cultural and linguistic heritage, particularly Hindi, is a pillar of India’s soft power and global leadership.
Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta congratulated the Vishwa Hindi Parishad for organising a meaningful and insightful conference and extended his best wishes to all scholars, researchers and participants.
The conference also included the release of several books and the screening of the documentary ‘Nalanda University: A Glimpse’. The Lt Governor also felicitated the litterateurs, journalists and writers.
Earlier, in the prelude session, Dr. Maheshchandra Sharma, Dr. Shivshakti Nath Bakshi, Joint Secretary (Economic Affairs) Baldev Purusharth, and Prof. Hemchandra Jain presented scholarly insights on nationalism, inclusiveness, cultural renaissance and the need to reassert India’s civilizational narrative.
Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’, Prof. Sachchidanand Mishra and Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan Acharya Lakshmi Prasad Yarlagadda, President, Vishwa Hindi Parishad also addressed the gathering.
Dr. Vipin Kumar, National General Secretary of Vishwa Hindi Parishad, presented the report and institutional overview of the Parishad.
Prof. Ramnarayan Patel, Conference Convenor, introduced the thematic framework of the sessions.
