NOV 20: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police raided the office of the independent news organisation Kashmir Times on Thursday for allegedly promoting activities against the country.
According to reports citing official sources, a case has been registered against the newspaper and its Editor and prominent journalist and author Anuradha Bhasin to examine her alleged links and activities that “threaten the sovereignty” of India.
On Thursday morning, SIA raided the office and conducted a thorough search of the newspaper’s premises and computers.
The case has been lodged against the newspaper and its promoters, and they are likely to be questioned.
Maktoob reached out to the Editor-in-Chief of Kashmir Times, who is not in the country at the moment. She said she came to know about the raid only after a friend called her.
An FIR has also been filed against Bhasin in connection with these charges, according to reports.
The operation underscores the ongoing crackdown in Kashmir, with the SIA claiming that “there must be no misuse of platforms to propagate seditious or separatist ideologies.”
