Deputy CM warns, “Saare Raaz Khol Dunga,” as House witnesses chaos
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed heated exchanges and uproarious scenes after allegations of cross-voting in the recent Rajya Sabha elections resurfaced during the Question Hour.
The ruckus began when Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “stealing four votes” during the elections.
“Yesterday, you stole four votes. If I reveal the secrets, no one will remain seated here. ‘Saare raaz khol dunga,” Choudhary said, sparking pandemonium in the House.
The remark drew an angry response from BJP legislators, who shouted back at the National Conference (NC) benches.
NC members retaliated with chants of “vote chor, vote chor” (vote stealers), bringing the proceedings to a standstill for several minutes.
Amid the din, Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone accused both NC and BJP of political double-dealing, alleging, “It was match-fixing between NC and BJP.”
Sources said the uproar stemmed from reports of unprecedented cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha polls, where seven legislators believed to support NC candidates had either voted in favour of BJP nominees or deliberately invalidated their votes.
Speaker’s repeated appeals for calm went unheeded as the verbal clash continued, forcing a brief adjournment of the House.
The controversy has reignited political tensions in Jammu and Kashmir’s newly constituted Assembly, with rival parties trading allegations of betrayal and backroom deals in the high-stakes Rajya Sabha contest.
