Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the advance release of the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for farmers of the Union Territory.
According to the LG’s Office, approximately ₹171 crore will be directly credited into the bank accounts of around 8.55 lakh eligible farmers across Jammu and Kashmir. The assistance, released under the PM-KISAN scheme, is aimed at helping farmers sustain their livelihoods and speed up agricultural recovery activities.
The LG emphasized that farmers form the backbone of the economy and are vital to ensuring growth in other sectors. “The Government of India remains committed to providing all possible assistance to mitigate the effects of the worst floods in decades and ensure stability in the lives of affected populations,” the statement added.
The PM-KISAN scheme provides financial support to eligible farmers across the country through direct benefit transfers, ensuring timely income support to strengthen agricultural sustainability and rural prosperity.
