SEPT 26: J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Friday, termed the detention of Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk as “Unfortunate” citing that people of Ladakh have been betrayed by Central Government in the name of Statehood and Sixth Schedule.
At the sidelines of an event in Srinagar, CM Omar Abdullah said, “The way Central Government was after Sonam Wangchuk, it was expected that he will be arrested. Promises were made to the people of Ladakh about the Statehood and Sixth Schedule by the Central Government at the time of elections.”
CM said, “It really becomes difficult to understand about the boundation of the Central Government as first they make promises and later refrain from them.”
“Before the elections of Hill Council, the leader from Central leadership visited Ladakh as people at that time decided to boycott polls. The leader on behalf of the Government promised them Statehood and Sixth Schedule. The people extensively participated in the elections and cast ballot in favour of BJP which came to power in Centre but those promises remained unfulfilled,” CM Omar said.
“Likewise promises were made to people of Jammu and Kashmir but all we received is disappointment from Centre,” CM Omar said.
On allegations of LoP Sunil Sharma, CM Omar Abdullah said that why should he justify the violence, infact, LoP should answer why this situation arrose.
CM said, “I am not the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Security of Ladakh does not fall under my domain. And I didn’t justified the voilence of Ladakh.”
“LoP should justify that promises made on the pretext of Statehood and Sixth Schedule why were not those so-called committments fulfilled? And promises made to J&K have not been catered yet,” CM Omar targets LoP.
“Is it necessary that LoP has to become the CM for restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, if yes, then he should give this in writing to Court that J&K will get statehood only when BJP forms Government here,” CM Omar said.
